Arizona court ruling defends tattoo shops' first amendment rights.
A court ruling just handed down in Arizona says a tattoo parlor is protected under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
The Arizona Court of Appeals ruled yesterday that tattoo shops are free to open businesses in any commercial area.
The ruling comes after the City of Mesa rejected an application to open a tattoo parlor because it was incompatible with the neighborhood.
A judge says the city does not have the right to deny a permit for a tattoo parlor based on the neighborhood's perception of tattoo shops.
